A Massachusetts man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after intentionally burning a caged raccoon. Urge maximum sentencing in this case!

On December 30, 2023, the Quincy Police Department responded to a call and found two neighbors arguing and a badly burned raccoon in a cage. Video obtained by investigators allegedly showed Andrew Chieu putting the raccoon in the cage and placing her over a tin can with a fire inside.

The raccoon was taken to the New England Wildlife Center, where rescuers tried to treat her injuries and save her; she suffered severe burns to her stomach, back, and paws. Sadly, despite their best efforts, including several surgeries, on January 12, the organization shared that she passed away.

In Defense of Animals

Chieu, who was arraigned and released on January 2, is facing up to seven years in jail and a fine of up to $5,000. He's due back in court on February 15, and we must ensure he is sentenced to the jail time he is potentially facing.

Additionally, besides any financial penalties, he must undergo a mental evaluation and treatment. He must also never be allowed to live or work with animals.
