Get Justice for Dog Locked in Hot Car as Punishment

In August, a woman in Sandusky, Ohio, was arrested for deliberately causing the death of her dog by allegedly locking him in her car on a hot day. Urge the prosecutor on this case to seek the maximum penalties, and ensure she is never in possession of animals again.

Officers from the Sandusky Police Department were sent to the home of Mouheb Ashakih after her neighbor called to report she had put her dog Chapo in her car. The neighbor saw Chapo tearing up the car trying to escape, and went to ask Ashakih to take him out but she refused, stating “I don't care. I want him to die!”

When officers arrived, she admitted to putting him in the car because he attacked one of her other dogs. When they realized Chapo was still in the car, they rushed over and found him unresponsive on the floor. It was 81 degrees Fahrenheit at the time, and when officers broke the window to free him, they noted a “very hot burst of air” coming from inside.

It was too late for Chapo, whose paws were covered in blood from attempting to scratch his way out, while witness statements indicated that she had done this to Chapo before and had not been caring for her other dogs properly either.

Ashakih was arrested for felony animal cruelty and consented to surrender her four other dogs, including one two-year-old and three six-month-old puppies.
