Justice for Dog Mercilessly Tortured Until Her Nose Almost Fell Off

This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.

A Washington County, Mississippi resident was horrified to discover a Yorkshire Terrier dog whose muzzle had almost been severed off by a rubber band. We must act now to find the people who did this and make sure that this cruel and heartless act of animal abuse is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The good Samaritan who found this tormented 10-pound dog quickly sought help from the Animal Rescue and Relief Foundation (ARRF) in Greenville, which subsequently named her Sugar. Since her rescue, Sugar has been receiving treatment from the Greenville Animal Clinic & Hospital. There is hope for her full recovery, which is a miracle, considering that the rubber band caused Sugar maddening pain and cut through her muzzle all the way down to the bone and teeth.

The rubber band prevented Sugar from being able to eat and drink at all, and when it was removed, and she was finally able to drink, it was possible to see through one side of her mouth and out the other. Surgery was required to remove the necrotic tissue beneath the rubber band, and then to remove and re-attach little Sugar’s muzzle with multiple sutures.

Our team and ARRF are working together with the Washington County Sheriff’s department to identify the perpetrator(s) of this malicious crime and bring them to justice. A $5,000 reward has been offered for the arrest and conviction of whoever so callously — for either “prank” or punishment — caused Sugar such terrible pain and suffering.

We ask for your help in keeping this case on the front-burner of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Its Chief Deputy has made it clear that animal cruelty will not be tolerated, but he is going to need our back up when he goes to the Washington County Board of Supervisors to get the additional help needed to pursue this case.

What YOU Can Do:
