Justice Served for Slain Pot-Bellied Pig

The Quitman County Justice Court House was the scene of a vigil for Jolene, the slain pot-bellied pig who was family to her guardian, Kala Elmore, as well as her neighbors and friends.

Illiah K. Webb pled guilty to shooting Jolene five times and to shooting from a motorized vehicle from the road. Judge Joe Brown also found Webb guilty of trespass and assessed fines and restitution at just over $1,300 and ordered Webb to stay out of Kala Elmore’s community for a year.

While this wasn’t anywhere what we would have liked, it was a decent sentence for Mississippi considering that pet pigs aren’t given the same considerations as cats and dogs under the law.
