GRENADA, Miss. (June 15, 2026) — In Defense of Animals is offering a $2,500 reward for the arrest and conviction of the individual who repeatedly bashed Max, a golden toy poodle, on the head with a weapon in Grenada causing his death.  

On June 2, Max wandered from his home on Silverleaf Road and returned fatally injured. He had been beaten on the head with a weapon that fractured his skull, left his eyes bloodied and had signs of trauma and bruising on the inside flap of his ears. Another blow would have crushed his skull. With his injuries, he made it home to collapse in his guardian’s arms.

Max was rushed to Veterinary Associates animal hospital in hopes he might be saved, but he had succumbed to his devastating injuries.

Someone in Max’s neighborhood may have seen or heard something that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the senselessly cruel person who caused the catastrophic injuries that resulted in Max’s terrifying and excruciatingly painful death.

“There is no doubt that the individual who attacked Max has a cruel disposition and statistically is a threat to the welfare of humans and animals who might cross their path in a moment of rage or the thrill of harming a targeted victim. This violent person must be brought to justice for the safety of this entire community,” stated In Defense of Animals Senior Campaigner, Doll Stanley.

Under Mississippi law [statute § 97-41-16. (2.) (b.)] maliciously injuring a dog is a felony charge of animal cruelty. If convicted, the perpetrator faces up to three years in prison, up to a $5,000 fine, and mandatory restitution. The court can also mandate mental health evaluation and treatment, and ban the individual from having any contact with animals for 15 years.
