BOSSIER, La. (August 14, 2025) — In Defense of Animals condemns the lenient sentencing handed to Nathan Mann by Judge Michael Craig, who was arrested for in 2023 for posessing pornography involving juveniles and sexual abuse of an animal. 

On March 23, 2023, the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office issued a media release reporting that a cyber-tip led to Mann’s arrest. He was initially charged with  106 counts of pornography involving juvenile and and 3,248 counts of sexual abuse of an animal.

Mann was booked into Bossier Maximum Security Facility on a $1,000,000 bond, which kept him behind bars pending trial.

The charges for sexual abuse of an animal were appallingly dropped, and the charges for child sexual assault material were reduced to 10. 

On August 11, he was sentenced for all 10 counts. For the first five, Mann will serve five years for each to run concurrently, with three years time served. For the remaining five, he will serve five years for each to run consecutively. Together, he will serve 27 years imprisonment unless he is released under a correctional system provision.

In Defense of Animals launched a petition to support Mann’s  prosecution and incarceration, in addition to mandated psychological counseling, and being prevented from being around animals or children in the future and submitted the 13,491 signatures collected to Parish District Attorney Marvin Schuyler, with a request to present the documents in the sentencing file for the judge’s consideration.

“This case reflects the depth of the despicable exploitation and abuse of animals and children,” stated In Defense of Animals senior campaigner, Doll Stanley. “It’s incredibly disappointing that the charges for animal sexual abuse material were dropped. Depraved individuals like this should feel the full weight of laws intended to hold them accountable and keep them away from the most vulnerable members of society.”

It is not currently known whether the animal or children depicted in the abuse materials were identified or rescued. No further information has been released by authorities.
