This Month We Lost a Treasured Friend and Supporter

On March 19, 2017, early in the morning in Arroyo Grande, California, In Defense of Animals lost our long time supporter and treasured friend, Van Langston. Ginger Langston, Van's surviving spouse of many years, was among the founders of South Bay In Defense of Animals, a formidable advocacy group for In Defense of Animals campaigns and animals in the 80’s and 90’s in Northern California.

Van and Ginger greatly aided Hope Animal Sanctuary and visited the sanctuary in Mississippi. Van visited once with Ginger, while Ginger visited twice. Van also worked magic at Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). He aided with building the structures to contain the elephants and was a master at meeting most of the needs of PAWS Sanctuary.

How do we bear such losses? We can only do so with the hope that the devoted ranks of animal advocates continue their work for animals.

The photo is of a visit Doll Stanley had a couple of years ago with Ginger and Van. Doll stands beside Van, on the right of other fellow South Bay IDA members .
