We're Demanding Justice for Dog Beaten With Flashlight

In early December of last year, a video taken from the home surveillance camera of Swain’s son and daughter-in-law’s residence showed Swain thrusting his fists into his vehicle towards his dog, Albert. Albert’s feet could be seen flailing. Swain then entered the small truck and began thrusting his heavy two-handled flashlight downward towards Albert, with his grandson standing beside pleading for him to stop.

A warrant was issued for Swain’s arrest and on December 12, 2016, Swain turned himself into the Biloxi Police Department. Animal control did not take the dog to a veterinarian for an examination. Only the video and the grandson’s testimony stand for Albert’s justice.

On February 5, 2017, members of In Defense of Animals' Justice for Animals Campaign were joined by other animal advocates including representatives from Animal Advocacy Initiative of Mississippi in a vigil in front of the Biloxi, Mississippi Municipal Court. The vigil followed the arraignment of William "Billy" Larry Swain who was charged with the beating of his dog, Albert.

Swain has had a continuance of court dates with August 30, 2017 being the next. This court date too may change. What won’t change is our determination to see justice for Albert. We’re providing the court contact information here for those of you who wish to follow this disturbing case. There’s no way that Swain’s claim that he was hitting the seat of his small truck could be valid. Albert is a large dog and he clearly filled the seat while he was prostrate during the assault.
