Help Build the World’s Largest Wildlife Crossing!

These newborn mountain lion kittens in the Santa Monica Mountains are adorable, but they are likely victims of inbreeding. This is one of many reasons why biologists are supporting Liberty Canyon Wildlife Crossing, the first wildlife crossing of its kind in California and the largest in the world! The crossing will help many animals including mountain lions who will benefit from safe passage across Highway 101 and into neighboring mountain ranges. Make a call and sign our alert now to support this groundbreaking, lifesaving bridge!

17 big cats and numerous other wild animals have been killed crossing Highway 101 since 2002. Shrinking populations have led to inbreeding.

“If P-12 is in fact these kittens’ father, that also means he’s their grandfather, their great-grandfather, and their great-great-grandfather,” National Park Service biologist Jeff Sikich told the Los Angeles Times. “Inbreeding to this degree really highlights the need for providing safe passage across the 101 freeway so new mountain lions can enter the population and breed.”

Without this wildlife crossing, experts say these mountain lions may go extinct within 50 years. To maintain the lion population, California Department of Transportation - Caltrans - has proposed to build a wildlife crossing across U.S. Route 101 (US-101) just west of Liberty Canyon Road in the City of Agoura Hills in Los Angeles County. We fully support this proposal, but it needs your support!
