Los Angeles, California: Join Us for “A Prayer for Compassion” Film Screening

In Defense of Animals joins with Jewish Veg, Vegan Flag, and other organizations to host the Los Angeles premiere of an award-winning new documentary A Prayer for Compassion that promotes compassion for all animals to religious and spiritual audiences.

The film was recently awarded the “Compassion Award” at the Cinema Verde International Film Festivals and has been selected for 3 more film festivals – Fort Myers Film Fest, New Haven International Film Festival and the Brave Maker Film Festival in San Francisco.

The feature-length film, also selected by a plant-based publication as one of the 21 Must-Watch Vegan Documentaries that will inspire people to change the world in 2019, strives to motivate and encourage those already on a religious or spiritual path to expand their circle of compassion to embrace all life, regardless of species, and make choices in alignment with this value.

The film follows filmmaker Thomas Jackson on a quest across America, to Morocco for the UN World Climate Conference, and throughout the Indian subcontinent, asking the questions, “Can compassion grow to include all beings and how will people of faith respond to the call to include all of the planet’s inhabitants in a circle of respect, caring and love?”

The film chronicles the formation of In Defense of Animals’ Interfaith Vegan Coalition to spread the vegan gospel of compassion for all living beings via faith-based vegan advocacy tools. Co-founders Lisa Levinson and Judy Carman, who are interviewed in the film, organize Compassionate Living Circles to support filmgoers who want to adopt a plant-based diet and veganize their place of worship.

The Los Angeles premiere will be held at 6:30pm on June 3 at the Laemmle Music Hall in Beverly Hills. From 6:30pm to 7:15pm, attendees are welcome to gather in the lobby to view a pop-up museum exhibit on animals and world religions curated by author, activist and professor Dr. Lisa Kemmerer. From 7:15pm to 7:45pm, enter the theater for a Q & A, with filmmaker Thomas Jackson and others interviewed in the film. The film runs from 7:45pm to 9:30pm.

Please purchase your $13 ticket before May 27. We must sell 80 tickets by this date to reserve the theater. Invite your friends, family, and everyone at your place of worship!
