What's the biggest global trend in fashion? News headlines abound declaring that designers and retailers are ditching cruel animal fur making it clear that the future of fashion is fur-free! Now, it is time for Dolce & Gabbana to join the ever-growing list of fur-free designers to meet consumer demand for ethically-made clothing and apparel. Please urge Dolce & Gabbana to finally go fur-free!
The fur sold in department stores is the product of immense suffering and cruelty. Fur-bearing animals, including mink, foxes, raccoons, and rabbits, among other species, are confined to filthy, cramped cages for prolonged periods of time and are killed in unimaginably agonizing ways. The terrified animals may be bludgeoned, gassed, or vaginally or anally electrocuted to ensure the fur itself is not damaged. Undercover footage of fur farms has shown that they may even be skinned alive. Even more animals are trapped in the wild, where they suffer in snares and traps until they die of starvation or dehydration or trappers return to shoot them.
Now more than ever, it is important to also note how detrimental buying fur really is to our own health. Mink are highly susceptible to COVID-19. They can catch the deadly virus from humans and can transmit it back to humans. This cycle has led to the development of mutated strains of the virus. The brutality inflicted on the animal victims of the fur industry is no secret and the fashion industry is waking up. Fashion houses and designers that have publicly committed to fur-free policies include Gucci, Prada, Versace, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Stella McCartney, Giorgio Armani, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Burberry, Furla, Jimmy Choo, Oscar de la Renta, and even Canada Goose!
Mega-retailers that no longer sell animal fur include Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, H&M, and many more.
