New York address required to submit

Last winter the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced it wouldn't be promoting fur on social media or at New York Fashion Week starting this fall, which signals yet another step toward the demise of this cruel industry.

Now there's a chance to make even more of a difference in New York with the introduction of A01923, which will ban the manufacture and sale of fur. Urge assembly members to support this bill!

New York City is a global fashion hub, but opinions are shifting against fur for good reason and more fashion houses and publications continue to opt out of supporting the fur trade — even Etsy just took a stand against fur.

The vast majority of fur comes from animals trapped on fur farms where they spend their short, miserable lives trapped in filthy cages being denied everything they need to thrive before they're brutally killed. The horrifying conditions take an immense toll on them psychologically and physically continue to be exposed globally, but wild animals also meet gruesome fates at the hands of trappers who have an arsenal of inhumane tools to kill their victims.

The bill under consideration, which was introduced by Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, would ban the “manufacture, sale, display for sale, trade, giving, donating, or otherwise distributing of a fur product by any means,” with some exceptions, in New York with a two-year phase in period after it's signed into law.

Fur may have once been a symbol of luxury, but this industry poses a major threat to animal welfare, the environment and public health.

Fur is not ethical, or a sustainable product and there will never be anything fashionable about animal cruelty.
