Even with a growing number of fashion houses and publications taking a stand against fur, more needs to be done to protect animals from this insidious industry.

Lawmakers in Rhode Island are considering legislation (S 2221) that would ban fur from farmed animals in the state. Urge state senators to pass this bill!

It's tragically estimated that more than 100 million animals are killed for their fur every year, while the vast majority of them are raised and killed on fur farms. They're confined to small wire cages for their entire lives and denied everything they need to thrive or engage in natural behaviors before being brutally killed.

Keeping them this way causes serious physical and psychological harm, leaving them to suffer from stereotypic behaviors, which are an indicator of serious distress, self-mutilation, and cannibalism.

That's aside from the environmental harm and risks to human health that come from fur farming.

The bill in Rhode Island would ban the sale of fur from animals on fur farms, which would reduce demand and promote the message that there's nothing fashionable about fur.

As someone concerned with animal welfare, I’m writing to urge you to pass S 2221 to ban the sale of fur from farmed animals in Rhode Island.
 
It’s tragically estimated that more than 100 million animals are killed for their fur every year, while the vast majority of them are raised and killed on fur farms. They’re confined to small wire cages for their entire lives and denied everything they need to thrive or engage in natural behaviors before being brutally killed.
 
Keeping them this way causes serious physical and psychological harm, leaving them to suffer from stereotypic behaviors, which are an indicator of serious distress, self-mutilation, and cannibalism.
 
That’s aside from the environmental harm and risks to human health that come from fur farming, which requires significant energy and produces waste, and poses the threat of spreading diseases.
 
This legislation is much-needed to reduce the demand and send the message that there’s nothing fashionable about animal cruelty — especially considering all of the cruelty-free alternatives on the market.
