URGENT: U.S. Senators Must Confirm Wild Horse Defender to Cabinet

President Biden has nominated U.S. Representative Deb Haaland (D, NM) to his administration's cabinet as Secretary of the Interior. Rep. Haaland has been a staunch supporter of wild horses and burros and the public lands upon which they roam. We must act now to urge senators to confirm her nomination and ignore her wild horse hating detractors!

If confirmed, Rep. Haaland would be the first Native American to serve as any Cabinet secretary. Native American culture has sanctified the protection and preservation of the Earth for centuries, and many tribes and Native Americans revere the horse. Rep. Haaland's confirmation would be a profound restorative stride towards justice, putting her at the helm of an agency that was ironically responsible for the decimation of Native American tribes from their homelands.

More recently, the Department of the Interior (DOI) has been responsible for massive removals of wild horses and burros from their native ranges on public lands. For the past few decades wild horses have been brutally chased by helicopters in horrifying roundups, and separated forever from the freedom and families they hold so dear. Many thousands now languish in pitiful pens, all at taxpayer expense even though the American public overwhelmingly supports wild horses remaining on our public lands over the claims of private special interests, which DOI policy benefits.

A few senators are beholden to the special interest groups that want wild horses rounded up. These senators and groups are desperately trying to block the confirmation of Rep. Haaland, who has shown strong support on wild horse and burro issues. We must urge our senators to confirm Rep. Deb Haaland at once!
