Help Ban Fur in New York City!

Help Ban Fur in New York City!

This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.

New York City – known as the fashion capital of the world -  has introduced an exciting new bill to ban the sale of cruel fur products in the city! This ban would influence the fashion industry worldwide to save countless animals from horrific deaths!

The abject cruelty of the fur industry is undeniable. For the sake of making a trivial fashion statement using garments like fur jackets and clothing with fur trim, animals including coyotes, chinchillas, foxes, mink, rabbits, and others are subjected to unregulated killing methods which cause unimaginable terror and agony. Animals are gassed, electrocuted, or have their necks broken, while anal or genital electrocution is a common method for killing animals used for fur. Furs from dogs, cats, raccoons, rodents and other animals are often undisclosed or intentionally mislabeled by manufacturers, and carcinogenic chemicals are often used to preserve fur products.

We must act now to influence the city council to support Intro 1476!

Intro 1476 would outlaw the sale of all new farmed fur items and prohibit making products with fur obtained from trapped animals. Violators of the ban would be fined, and fur apparel sold or offered for sale would be subject to seizure and forfeiture.

If passed, New York City would become the third major American city to ban fur, behind San Francisco and Los Angeles. A fur ban in one of the world’s most influential cities will announce to the world that consumers’ preferences are evolving and the demand for animal-friendly apparel will continue to grow.
