San Francisco Bay Area: Join the Tule Elk Freedom Party, on Saturday, March 1, 2025!
You’re invited to attend our big celebration of the freeing of the magnificent Tule elk of Point Reyes National Seashore — in person! This is not a Zoom event! Meet many of us In Defense of Animals activists in person, along with many other activists! We’ve all worked so hard, with your support, for years, to achieve this big, historic win for the elk — and thousands of other wild animals living at Point Reyes National Park.
We’re all commemorating the historic improvements coming to Point Reyes over the next year or so. You and millions of annual Point Reyes human visitors will see more and freer Tule elk, far fewer cattle ranches, and fewer industrial impacts (like manure and methane) in this national park unit. These are the most significant improvements to the park in over 45 years.

Over 150 environmentalists and citizen activists will gather from 1 - 4 p.m. PT on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Mill Valley Community Center in Mill Valley, CA (in Marin County, just 5 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge).
Join this historic Point Reyes Tule elk Freedom Party!
The gathering will be buzzing with Tule elk supporters, animal advocates, and national park protectors, all celebrating this long-overdue freeing of wild elk who have been brutally, appallingly, trapped inside a national park of all places.
Meet the activists driving this movement, including from In Defense of Animals, Turtle Island Restoration Network, and representatives of the three environmental organizations — Center for Biological Diversity, Resource Renewal Institute, and Western Watersheds Project — which filed the 2022 lawsuit leading to a January 2025 mediated settlement agreement to remove thousands of cows exploited for dairy and beef from the park by April of 2026.
Brighter Future for Tule Elk at Point Reyes
The entire 2-mile-long, 8-foot-tall elk fence which killed over 500 of the gentle, sensitive elk in the last decade will be dismantled.
So all three of the park’s Tule elk herds will, for the first time since their 1978 reintroduction to Point Reyes, be released to mix, mingle, and mate as all wild animals in America’s national parks should be allowed.
Victories for wild animals and the environment are rare, which is why we’re celebrating this one!
This gathering is free and open to the public, to inspire future activism, and more victories in wildlife protection.
You can bring a vegan (animal product-free) dish or dessert to share if you’d like, but this is optional.
If you’re an In Defense of Animals supporter, please introduce yourself — we’d love to meet you and express our gratitude for your care and support for the beloved Tule elk of Point Reyes.
