A Hollywood Star’s Home Transitions Into a Freedom Center!

A Hollywood Star’s Home Transitions Into a Freedom Center!

At the end of 2022, we said farewell to our San Rafael office and hello to Freedom Farms, our new animal sanctuary and home headquarters in Creston, central California. The ranch is a work in progress and we need your input to blaze a trail of compassion for all beings!

In December 2022, In Defense of Animals President, Dr. Marilyn Kroplick negotiated a generous offer for our San Rafael office, then purchased Freedom Farms from movie director Todd Fisher.  The ranch is a former celebrity compound for Hollywood royalty: Debbie Reynolds and her children, Todd Fisher, and the beloved Star Wars actress, Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia.

The peaceful escape from Hollywood is set on 44 acres of rolling hills, with its own pond and creeks. It’s our newest refuge for animals (including humans) to rest, recover, and learn from each other… an epicenter for our animal rights evolution revolution!

Currently, Freedom Farms is home to wild and formerly farmed animals, including migratory geese, 15 cows, six cats, four peacocks, four ducks, one dog, one horse, and one donkey, plus many wild rabbits, birds, and deer – all looking for water, safety, and peace.

They are now free to roam, graze, play, and socialize with their friends, forever. Thanks to supporters like you, they can live happily and peacefully at the sanctuary, receiving the love, care, and veterinary attention they deserve.

As well as being a sanctuary for animals and advocates, Freedom Farms is dedicated to our ideals of defending animals, their guardians, and the planet.

Our dream is for Freedom Farms to serve as a center for humane education, advocacy, and outreach. We plan to use the ranch as our hub to spark a fundamental shift in how humans relate to other animals and the environment!

It’s an ideal place to attend workshops, retreats, and special events focused on positive personal actions to create a compassionate world. We aim to offer tours, events, and volunteer opportunities for people who want to make the world a better place for animals and human animals alike. Teaching sustainable living, plant-based cooking, and animal advocacy are just a few of the possibilities!

Our first priority is improving the lives of the animals who live at our new sanctuary. We are currently fixing up the barns and sheds. But there is nothing at all sheltering the cows. Our dearest wish right now is to build a “comfort cove” — a place for cows to escape the worsening extremes of sun and rain. They must not be forced to endure it!

We hope you will join us in our mission to build a barn for our cow friends before the worst of the worsening summer heat hits… and establish Freedom Farms as the capital of our compassion revolution!
