A Tiny Matted Dog Just Had a Big Change of Luck

This month our Hope Animal Sanctuary got a call about a tiny dog with matted fur who had been callously dumped at a local store. Despite having very little available space for more animals, we knew we couldn’t refuse to help this sad little canine orphan.

A friend called our Operations Manager, Sharon Stone, and described how the tiny dog had been dumped at the farm shop where her son-in-law works.  When Sharon looked at the picture she knew she just had to help this little dog. The dog was severely matted which indicated that she had been neglected for a very long time.  She was emaciated and every bone in her body could be felt through the matted hair. We named her Mattie and took her to be groomed and get a general checkup at our veterinarian's office.

The vet advised us to give her vitamins and that we allow her to first gain weight before she was brought back to be spayed. She weighed only 3.6 pounds when we got her and has to gain at least that much before she will be healthy enough to be spayed.

Shortly after this, a dear friend met with Sharon for lunch. She mentioned that her sister, Lisa,  was looking for a small dog.  The only picture that Sharon had was of Mattie before grooming while she was still terribly matted. Luckily, that didn’t seem to matter as Lisa immediately declared that she wanted her!

Shortly after that, Lisa picked up Mattie (whom she named Sugar) and now this lucky little dog begins a new life, one where she will be much loved. She will never be hungry again and will also never be alone again. Sugar is so happy and Lisa is over the moon with joy about her new companion.

Sugar is very much loved by her new guardians and she spends her days being spoiled, as a princess should.

Thanks to your generous support, we were able to help this lovely little dumped dog and countless other animals. You can help us continue this lifesaving mission by making a donation.
