Loving Bond Helps Street Cat Beat the Odds

A white and ginger street cat named Bhura was brought to In Defense of Animals India with a very swollen stomach and in great distress. He wasn't eating or drinking, and his guardian was very concerned. An X-ray revealed that the little cat’s stomach was completely blocked. Senior veterinarian Dr. Ghanwat had already performed 40 street dog spay and neuter operations that day, but owing to Bhura’s critical condition, rushed to the operating theater. Poor Bhura’s intestine was bloated so extremely that any delay would have cost his life.

Thanks to the skill and dedication of Dr. Ghanwat, the obstruction was cleared. But Bhura was not yet in the clear. For days after the operation, Bhura still refused to eat or drink. We had to keep him on IV fluids for fear of losing him. Fortunately, we had a breakthrough. Bhura’s guardian came to visit him and started talking to him, begging Bhura to eat. Like magic, Bhura began eating and drinking! We brought him his favorite food and he gobbled it right up!

Bhura is well on the way to recovery, thanks to In Defense of Animals India! Thank you to the dedicated staff of IDA India’s Deonar center, and to you our kind supporters for funding our lifesaving work!
