Fight the Dog Meat Trade

Fight the Dog Meat Trade

The Yulin Dog Meat Festival is less than two weeks away and multiple organizations are holding demonstrations to speak up against this horrible torture of dogs and cats. There is so much anger and helplessness, but let's take this time to thank and encourage someone who has taken it upon himself to champion our beloved companions in China and here in the United States. This champion for animals is U.S. Representative Alcee L. Hastings of Florida.

Rep. Hastings introduced H. Res 752 last year and reintroduced it again this year as H. Res 30 - Condemning the Dog Meat Festival in Yulin, China, and urging China to end the dog meat trade. In March, he introduced another animal welfare bill into the U.S. House of Representatives, H.R. 1406 - Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act of 2017.

While it is important to directly confront those abusing animals and the people in positions of power who allow abuse to happen, it is also important to recognize and encourage good deeds. Let's take this opportunity to give thanks.
