Tucked away on 44 peaceful acres of California meadows, forests, and riverfront, Freedom Farms provides a haven for animals once discarded by a world that saw them as nothing more than property.
Once a Hollywood retreat for Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, this land has been reborn as a sanctuary for healing, coexistence, and new beginnings — for humans and other animals alike.
Rescued individuals finally get to live the lives they were always meant to have: grazing under the sun, exploring their surroundings, and forging lasting bonds with one another in peace. Some were saved from slaughter. Some arrived battered by industry and neglect. Some came here independently, drawn to this place of safety and calm. All are now home.
Cows, deer, rabbits, ducks, peacocks, equines — each one has a story of survival. Each one has a name, a personality, and a life that matters.
At Freedom Farms, they are no longer “livestock,” “pests,” or “products.” They are individuals with histories, needs, and feelings. They are seen. They are known. They are loved.
But until now, most of their stories have remained untold.
In the coming months, we will begin sharing the stories of our beloved residents right here, not as anonymous animals, but as the remarkable beings they are. You'll get to know the gentle cows who narrowly escaped slaughter, the donkey who arrived in desperate need of care and now thrives in sanctuary, and the peacocks who rehomed themselves here, declaring Freedom Farms their sanctuary too.
We will honor them with words and images, and celebrate the freedom they’ve found while continuing to fight for those who are still suffering.
This page is for them.
It is for the horse who ran from pain and found rest.
For the duck who landed in our pond and never left.
For the herd of deer who roam our fields with grace.
For the cow who knows kindness for the first time.
And it is for all those still waiting for rescue.
Their stories will appear here soon.
Their lives are unfolding now.
Come back to meet them. And please, help us protect them.
Because at Freedom Farms, no one is forgotten.
