10 Worst Celebrity Chefs Revealed by In Defense of Animals
In Defense of Animals has released a list of ten celebrity chefs whose culinary choices cause the most animal suffering and death
San Rafael, CA (October 10, 2019) – In Defense of Animals has revealed a list of ten celebrity chefs who are responsible for the most animal suffering and death ahead of International Chefs Day on October 20th.
“Our 10 Worst Celebrity Chefs list isn’t just intended to shame bad actors but also to stimulate positive change,” said Fleur Dawes, Communications Director at In Defense of Animals. “We hope it will motivate celebrity chefs to exercise responsibility with their platforms and inspire compassion for abused animals by encouraging their followers to adopt a plant-based diet.”
Chefs earned a spot on the list for a variety of reasons. Some espouse recipes which require a large number of individual animals to be killed. A recent study from the journal Food Ethics calculated the number of animal deaths involved per celebrity chef cookbook. Its results were integrated into the list.
Other chefs were added for promoting exceptionally cruel animal products, such as veal and foie gras, or particularly sadistic means of consuming animals, such as boiling or eating them alive.
Some of the chefs are also notorious for irresponsible actions that encourage callousness towards animal cruelty, like killing animals during television appearances.
Chefs’ relative fame was accounted for. Those with larger audiences can entice more people to follow in their inhumane footsteps and, consequently, cause more damage.
