Stop Chickens Being Scalded Alive

Stop Chickens Being Scalded Alive

This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has created a horrific new waiver system that will allow slaughterhouses to slit chickens’ throats at speeds of up to 175 animals per minute. Maximum line speeds are already far too high with machines that slaughter up to 140 animals per minute. Reckless line speeds cause countless birds to suffer from botched cuts which results in them being fully conscious as they are boiled alive through submersion in the scalding tanks. We must speak up now to stop this!

Late last year, the National Chicken Council filed a petition with the USDA to lift maximum slaughter speed restrictions altogether. This request sparked a huge public outcry that the USDA could not ignore. While the issue was raw and in public view, the USDA “officially denied” the National Chicken Council’s request, choosing instead to wait a long period for the public’s attention to dwindle, before announcing its own waiver system without any notice for public comment.

This is yet another example of the USDA caving to big ag at the expense of animal suffering.

Please join us in demanding this underhanded loophole be scrapped!
