New Life for Desperate Mother & Her Pups
Few calls send animal advocates scrambling more than calls about struggling mothers and their babies. In this case, a mother dog, her seven newborn pups, and four larger pup companions were abandoned on a property in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi.
The current property owner explained the situation to Doll Stanley, who heads up our Justice For Animals Campaign program. A family that had been staying on the edge of her property had suddenly left, abandoning their fifteen animals, which, in addition to the dogs, included three chickens, two were hens, and a rooster.
The four older pups had already been moved to safety when Doll Stanley joined the Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Department to arrange for the mom and newborn pups to be cared for on the property. They were newborns, not yet moving around, but only with the immunities that their mom might have to give them. They were situated in a dry spot, and the property owner agreed to feed the mother dog using the food we provided, while a safe haven was being located.
Our Hope Animal Sanctuary is amazing but the calls for abandoned and abused animals are never-ending.
Our team reached out for help for the family of dogs. Within a day, five gracious offers came in. Wright-Way Rescue in Illinois saved the day and we kept the other offers on the table for future situations that might require their help. We gave the mom a name, Melissa, as she and her three boys and four girls left a bleak and perilous life for the promise of safe and loving homes.
With your participation and support for rescues like this, we can continue our 25-year record in the Deep South freeing thousands more animals from misery and suffering through rescue and legislation.
