Torment to Triumph

Torment to Triumph

In August of 2017, we rescued a group of dogs living in torment in Attala County, Mississippi. It was an absolute horror: dogs chained inside cyclone fencing, living in their own waste, sores and staph infections covering most of their skin, with nails that had never been trimmed. These dogs were only surviving because neighbors got involved, fed and watered them and sought out our help for them. Additionally, we’d worked with a family member in the past who had  reached out to us for help for these same people and their neglected dogs.

The Attala County Sheriff’s Department has been of assistance to us in multiple cases throughout our 25 years in Mississippi.

During our latest incident with this family, we removed a mother dog and her pups, three pit bulls, and a beagle. As our Hope Animal Sanctuary  was temporarily full after taking in the mother and her pups, Amory Animal Shelter Director Misty Tucker agreed to care for the four male adults.

The joyous news is that we have just received pictures of Alex, who was the very last of the dogs to be adopted. His size was a factor for most adopters, but he’s finally headed home after all this time. We are ecstatic for him, and wish him a new and amazing life. He has gone from torment to triumph at long last!

We are grateful to our supporters and to our network of friends who shared the responsibility of supplying resources — including dedicated advocates — in our region. We thank all of our Mississippi friends who work so hard together. The grateful looks in the eyes of the animals are more than enough thanks for us, but we must admit that it feels wonderful to rejoice with our fellow animal advocates when we work together to save Mississippi's animals.

Please donate to help tormented dogs like Alex.
