Pistol survived years of neglect, trapped inside a crate so small it deformed his body. Today, after months of care at Hope Animal Sanctuary, this tiny dog is finally safe, loved, and home.

Pistol had spent his whole life as a breeder, prized only for his tiny size and confined to a cat crate far too small for a dog. When his negligent guardian passed away, we agreed to take in all five dogs. Four of the females were in stable condition and soon found safe passage to a rescue partner in the Northeast. The fifth was Pistol, an emaciated, five-year-old little soul weighing just 4.5 pounds.

Years in a crate had left his hips and back legs deformed, and a severe flea allergy had stripped away most of his fur. He scratched constantly in misery and could barely walk. He looked like a ghost of a dog, but his spirit was anything but broken.

With months of patient care, nourishing food, medical treatment, and love, Pistol slowly began to gain weight and regrow his fur. Despite everything he had endured, he greeted people with trust and melted into anyone’s arms.

Today, Pistol lives with Sharon Stone, Operations Manager at Hope Animal Sanctuary — safe, adored, and finally home. Donations to support our work are always appreciated.
