Join Us to Protest Kapparot Chicken Slaughter in Los Angeles!

In Defense of Animals joins Faith Action for Animals and Los Angeles for Animals to advocate for helpless chickens who are traumatized and killed as part of Kapparot, an annual Jewish ritual for expiation of sin that involves symbolic transferring of human failures onto chickens and slaughtering them. Between the Jewish High Holy Holidays of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, thousands of chickens suffer and die each year in this controversial ritual, which is practiced by a very small percentage of Jewish people.

Both Jewish and non-Jewish activists have encouraged synagogues to use money instead of chickens for their ceremony and plan to try to rescue some of the chickens from the slaughter itself. Activists found bodies of Kapparot chickens in the trash, despite organizers' claims that their bodies would be donated to feed the poor, as is dictated by Jewish tradition. IDA’s Interfaith Vegan Coalition stands in solidarity with these activists to end the Kapparot chicken slaughter at the Hebrew Discovery Center. Join us to save these innocent chickens!
