URGENT! Last Chance to Stop Annihilation of Wild Horse Herd in North Dakota!

URGENT! Last Chance to Stop Annihilation of Wild Horse Herd in North Dakota!

This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.

The National Park Service ignored an unprecedented number of roughly 19,000 comments protesting its plan to remove the entire historic herd of wild horses from Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP) in North Dakota. Stakeholders submitted scientifically referenced comments and letters opposing the plan and offering reasonable alternatives under the decision-making process. The park formalized its diabolical plan anyway, and the public now has only until October 25 to submit our objections yet again.

We issued a prior call to action when the plan was in a development stage called the Scoping Notice. We have a final chance to make our public opinion known and documented. Once the horses are removed, they are sold with uncertain outcomes, some of which will surely lead them into the slaughter pipeline.

Less than 200 wild horses call the vast Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP) home. We recently visited this beautiful national park in the Badlands of North Dakota. The horses are incredibly healthy, and the abundant grasses and forage are ample enough to support, without damage, far more horses and other wild animals than currently reside there. Yet, advocates for these horses only ask the park to keep a genetically viable population of 200 to 250 horses.

In Defense of Animals

While in the park, we spoke to visitors about the plan to remove the wild horses. Every time, we found shocked expressions and the distressed question, "Why?" The wild horses in the park are beloved and admired by visitors from all over the world. There is no excuse or reason for the park to eliminate them. We must immediately stop this grave injustice for this western heritage herd whose ancestors were admired by the park's namesake, Teddy Roosevelt himself! Please submit your official comment now!
