Southern California: Protest Animal Cruelty at the Reptile Super Show in Anaheim

Join In Defense of Animals, PETA, and local activists in protesting the Reptile Super Show, an event where many species of reptiles and amphibians are exploited for display and profit.

Every day, breeders make money by traveling to animal trade shows at crowded convention centers, where reptiles are crammed into tubs and containers and sold to the public. Customers only see the healthiest, most sellable animals and are encouraged to buy animals they are not prepared to care for properly or are not financially equipped for in the long term. Reptiles suffer immensely at these expos, by experiencing stress, fear, and debilitating health issues. Very often, animals sold by these breeders already have existing health issues and rapidly deteriorate.

The Reptile Super Show markets the selling of reptiles who are promoted as “pets” and sources of family entertainment. The animals often spend days in transit from suppliers and many animals are wild-caught. Confined to small tanks and cages, they are deprived of the ability to exhibit natural behaviors. Animals should not be used for breeding, display, entertainment, or profit. We will be urging expo attendees to think about the cruelty hidden within these shows and encourage them not to purchase animals.
