VICTORY! Saks Fifth Avenue Finally Commits to Fur-Free Future!

VICTORY! Saks Fifth Avenue Finally Commits to Fur-Free Future!

AMAZING NEWS! After decades of protests, petitions, and demonstrations by dedicated animal advocates like you, Saks Fifth Avenue will be going fur-free!

The retailer has acknowledged at last the undeniable truth that most consumers do not want to buy items containing fur that was violently ripped from the backs of innocent animals. Saks will close its fur salons by the end of fiscal 2021 and will eliminate the sale of animal fur by the end of fiscal 2022. This move makes Saks the latest to join the ever-growing list of fur-free retailers, including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, TJ Maxx, and Nordstrom.

Mink, rabbits, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, and other fur-bearing animals suffer immensely due to the fur trade. Animals on fur farms are confined to tiny, filthy cages where they are bludgeoned, genitally or anally electrocuted, gassed, and may even be skinned alive. Animals in the wild are caught in snares and traps where they suffer agonizing wounds, dehydration, extreme conditions, and attacks by predators as they wait in terror to be shot or beaten to death by trappers.

It is undeniable that the fur trade is cruel and unnecessary, especially with the availability of high-quality faux fur items.

Our Fur Free Friday events take place every year on Black Friday, which is the day after Thanksgiving and the busiest shopping day of the year. The goal of these demonstrations is to urge shoppers not to buy animal fur and to make compassionate buying choices. In 2020, we teamed up with world-renowned celebrity and animal advocate Ricky Gervais to call on Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus to stop the sale of animal fur.

We are thrilled with Saks’ decision, and we will continue to campaign until the sale of animal fur is banned everywhere. Huge thanks to all of our supporters who continue to fight to end the cruel and unnecessary exploitation of animals for fashion. Visit furkills.org to take action today.
