It’s a Boy! Baby Noah Born at Freedom Farms Sanctuary

We are delighted to announce a new arrival at our new sanctuary! Baby calf, Noah, arrived during a severe rainstorm, earning his name as a reminder of resilience and renewal. His soft, fuzzy presence is a beacon of hope amidst relentless storms and record-breaking heat.

In the heart of California, at our Freedom Farms sanctuary, our special new arrival and his family of 15 have refuge. These gentle, beautiful individuals have escaped the harsh reality of being treated as unfeeling objects of the agricultural industry, where they would have faced incredible suffering and atrocious deaths. Now, Noah and his extended bovine family have the opportunity of a new beginning in a safe and caring environment.

True animal sanctuaries typically don’t have babies. This is because animal breeding and exploitation are closely linked. Babies are bred to drive milk production, ticket sales, or to produce an animal “product.” Noah was a product of unchecked breeding and the first priority we addressed when converting Freedom Farms into a sanctuary. Noah is Freedom Farms’ first and last baby cow!

Noah is cherished by his mom and every human he meets. Sadly, male calves born on farms aren’t so lucky. They are routinely taken from their mothers almost immediately after being born, destined for horrific ends at slaughterhouses. Often, these babies live out their short lives in confined pens and are killed to be consumed as veal.

None of our cows will ever endure the standard abuse of the dairy and beef industry! They are ambassadors for their species, sparking compassion and understanding.

But Noah and his family face their own difficulties in California’s increasingly extreme weather events. We're working tirelessly to provide these cows, including baby Noah, with the care and protection they deserve.

Two pressing issues need addressing:

  • There is not enough natural grass for the cows, and we must provide hay daily at a cost of $160 to ensure their well-being.
Currently, there is no shelter for them to protect them from the elements, leaving them vulnerable to harsh weather conditions.

  • California's climate is growing increasingly unpredictable and severe due to the ongoing climate crisis. These precious cows are now in our care, and we are dedicated to ensuring their safety. Whether it's coping with flooding or extreme heat, we are committed to being their guardians.

Our efforts to provide sanctuary to these cows and Noah align with the legacy of our founder, Dr. Elliot Katz. His vision and dedication to animal welfare continue to inspire us. Dr. Katz's Guardian Credo, which emphasizes respecting animals as individuals with intrinsic value, guides our mission.

This is a new beginning not just for these rescued cows and Noah, but for all of us who are privileged to share in their journey. Your continued support is invaluable in creating a brighter future for them and all of the animals we protect. Please consider chipping in whatever you can afford to help us celebrate this precious new life and build the shelter Noah and his family need!
