Six Abandoned Puppies With Severe Mange Start Healing at Our Sanctuary

We’re used to getting calls about abandoned animals at our Hope Animal Sanctuary in Mississippi, but when we got a recent one about six puppies in desperate need of medical help, we knew they would need a lot of extra special care. They’re now getting the treatment they need, and once they’re healed they’ll be on their way to forever homes.

These puppies would have had very little chance of surviving, had it not been for a call begging for help from a compassionate person who knew about our work in the area.

These six puppies had been abandoned near the caller’s home, and they all had severe mange and needed immediate treatment for this horrible skin condition.

The puppies have both demodectic and sarcoptic mange, which are both caused by mites who burrow into their host’s skin causing intense itching. The mites and the constant scratching can also cause a bacterial infection on the skin. All of this causes hair loss. In this case, the six puppies have very little hair.

At the sanctuary, on the day they arrived, they were given a medicated bath and medications to rid them of the mites. This treatment is ongoing and will take approximately 4-6 weeks to completely heal. They will receive medicated baths every 3 days during this time period as well as the other medications needed.

Without help from Hope Animal Sanctuary, these six puppies would have had very little chance of surviving.

Your donations made it possible for In Defense of Animals to save these puppies and so many others like them. Please continue to support this lifesaving rescue work by making a donation.
