WATCH: A Baby Pig Recovers From Being Stepped On
Recently, in Mississippi, our Hope Animal Sanctuary Operations Manager happened to be in her veterinarian's office when a couple brought in a 3-day-old baby pig with a large injury to his shoulder. After hearing his story, we decided to help and we covered his medical bills.
The tiny piglet named Wilbur had accidentally been stepped on by his mother. The couple took the piglet into their home to prevent further injury or infection. However, that morning, they noticed a faint smell from the injury and feared an infection may have been starting.
David and Josie Layton wanted to be sure Wilbur got the care he needed and that he fully recovered so bringing him to the vet was something they knew had to be done for him. Dr. Hill trimmed some of the dead skin around the edges of the wound and instructed them on how to clean the wound. He also prescribed antibiotics for Wilbur.
Wilbur got the very best care from his forever guardians David and Josie and within a few days, he was feeling much better.
We are very grateful for this caring couple who took the time to make sure this little piglet did not suffer and that he will get to have a strong chance at a long and full life. Please help all pigs become as fortunate as Wilbur and his mom are, which is incredibly rare for pigs, by not eating them. We can help.
We always have a lot going on at Hope Animal Sanctuary and gratefully welcome donations that help us care for so many animals. Thank you for your compassion.
