WATCH: Demanding Kitten Season Underway at Hope Animal Sanctuary

It’s kitten season once again, and the latest tiny additions to our Hope Animal Sanctuary highlight the problems that arise when people underestimate the commitment needed to properly care for cats, and irresponsibly fail to spay/neuter them. A family “just had to have” a kitten…maybe two.

The children begged, promises were made, and because kittens are adorable and seem harmless enough, the answer was yes. But time passed, those tiny kittens grew into unspayed females, and soon there were litters of kittens of their own.

Now suddenly, what was once cute has become inconvenient.

Too many mouths to feed. Too many litter boxes to clean. Too much responsibility. So the cruel decision is made: they all must go.

Both mama cats and every one of their babies are suddenly no longer wanted.

Except the children cry and plead to each keep just one kitten. Then somehow, two kittens are chosen (above their moms, who were once very “wanted” kittens themselves) to move into the new home…where the cycle will likely begin all over again.

The others were fortunate. They found safety, food, and compassion at Hope Animal Sanctuary.

In another room sits yet another young mother cat with her three kittens. She, too, was loved once. Loved until she became pregnant. Loved until caring for her became “too much.” None of this is her fault, yet she and her babies were discarded just the same.

Thankfully, they also found refuge at Hope Animal Sanctuary.

Soon, these precious cats and kittens will be spayed and neutered, ensuring no more unwanted babies are born into a world that so often fails them. They will find families who understand that animals are not temporary entertainment or disposable inconveniences. They are living, feeling souls deserving of love, safety, and lifelong commitment.

Sadly, they will not be the last unwanted animals to come through our doors.

With your help, we can continue giving these forgotten lives the happy endings they deserve. Please donate and become part of their story and support our spay/neuter assistance program to help end this heartbreaking cycle.
