WATCH: Dog Finds Herself in a Pickle of a Predicament
A dog was spotted wandering around with a plastic jug stuck on her head in Mississippi recently. Luckily for her, her plight was posted on social media, and the right person was tagged for help. That’s where we stepped in.
Sharon Stone runs our Hope Animal Sanctuary, and when she was tagged on Facebook about a little local dog with a plastic jug stuck on her head, she knew she had to help.
She called her friend and employee, Jeannie Grammer, who was scheduled to work at the sanctuary that Sunday. Our sanctuary team then made its way to the location where we were told the dog had been seen. Incredibly, a nice young man, Logan Turner, had driven about 70 miles to look for this dog whom he had also seen on social media. He had been told that we were there looking for the dog as well, so he flagged our team down and told us that he had seen the dog earlier.
We had a humane trap with us so we made our way up the steep hill with the trap and set it near the location where he had seen the dog. He waited in his truck which was parked at that location. Jeannie and Sharon walked back down the hill hoping the dog would come back to that location.
Sure enough, within about 30 minutes she came back. Up the hill, we went and prepared to try to catch her. However, she was faster than we were and she escaped.
We decided to leave the trap and come back early the next morning to see if she had gone in. Logan said he was going to stay about 30 minutes and then leave.
Jeannie and Sharon headed to their respective homes. Within about 45 minutes, Logan called and said he had caught the dog!
He was leaving and saw her trotting down the road. He stopped his vehicle and chased her, catching her before she could get away!
Together we managed to get the jug from her head. She was terrified which made it harder to accomplish the task. Nevertheless, we did get the jug off! She was so happy! She could finally breathe clean air again. We offered her cool water, but she was not ready for that yet.
Sharon carried her to her home and set her up with a soft bed in her air-conditioned sunroom. When she realized she was safe, she showed us how sweet and grateful she was.
Upon seeing the dog in trouble, the daughter of the original poster said, “Mom, that little dog sure is in a pickle!” Hence we aptly named her Pickle!
Sadly, she is heartworm-positive, so we have started her on medication as part of getting her ready for that treatment.
Your support allowed us to save this sweet girl and made sure that we were able to treat her which we will continue to do until she is healthy again. It only takes a moment to discover more about Hope Animal Sanctuary's vital role in the Deep South and we hope that you will consider making a donation to support our work.
