WATCH: Tiny Puppies Dumped To Die in Mississippi

WATCH: Tiny Puppies Dumped To Die in Mississippi

Jeannie Grammer, an animal caregiver at our Hope Animal Sanctuary, was traveling in a rural area in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi when she saw a shocking sight.

She noticed two tiny puppies all alone on the side of the road. She immediately stopped and they ran toward her. Fearing there may be others, she walked through the tall weeds and indeed, found three more hiding who were absolutely terrified.

As she continued to look to make sure she had found all of them, she found tufts of black hair. To her horror, she saw a tiny black tail with a white tip. That was all that remained of one of the poor puppies.  Who could blame those puppies for hiding?

She took them home and then brought them with her to work at Hope Animal Sanctuary. Here they were given medicated baths, vaccines, and worming medication along with flea and tick prevention.

Sadly, this is not an isolated case in this rural area. This happens all too often. These puppies, except for the one who was killed, are the lucky ones; many are never found before they meet horrible deaths from predators.

Failure to spay and neuter dogs and cats has caused an overpopulation crisis in this area. There simply are not enough rescues, shelters, or sanctuaries to house all of them. Sterilization is the only answer. We are currently working on a plan to address some of these needs and hope to have an announcement soon.
