Diwali Shines a Light on IDA India’s Work for Animals
There are countless animals in need of help in India, but during this Diwali, or the Hindu Festival of Lights, we’re focusing on all that has been accomplished by our partner IDA India, despite how overwhelming the situation may be every day.
This five-day festival is generally recognized as a celebration of light over darkness and good over evil, and over the years IDA India has helped shine a light on the most vulnerable animals in need and given them a second chance.
On the second day of Diwali, a small Puja was conducted at our Deonar Center in Mumbai. During this, all the vehicles and everything that is used for work every day is prayed over for prosperity and continued use in the coming year. Garlands of flowers are used to decorate our ambulances and places of work.
Of course, many sweets and treats are shared among the staff, volunteers, and resident animals.
We couldn’t be prouder of the compassion and light our rescue partner brings to local communities and the animals who are saved because of it.
Last year alone, nearly 30,000 animals were helped across all four centers. Thousands received lifesaving care, vaccinations, surgeries, and treatments for illnesses and injuries, and thousands more were spayed or neutered.
You can help keep the future looking bright for animals in India by making a donation.
