WATCH: They Feared She’d Never Walk Again. A Reporter Helped Change Her Story

A reporter on their way to work stopped for an injured dog beside a busy Mumbai road. That decision brought her to a hospital — and eventually to our partner IDA India, where, after six treatment sessions, she stood on her own.

The dog had been hit by a car and was lying helplessly beside the road. The reporter picked her up and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors feared she might never walk again.

Determined to give her another chance, her rescuer contacted our partner IDA India. Our team could not promise she would regain her mobility, but we took her in and began the care she needed.

Her veterinary care at IDA India included acupuncture and laser therapy.

She underwent X-rays, and her treatment included acupuncture and laser therapy. These are among the supportive treatments used in our rehabilitation programs for animals who need extra help recovering.

After six sessions, she stood. Her first attempts were unsteady, but soon she began taking steps. Gradually, she walked with greater confidence.

Almost all the dogs and cats treated by IDA India are returned to the area where they live. The streets are both their home and their freedom, with the added bonus of human friends who regularly provide food, care, and look out for them.

However, when this dog returned to her caretaker, they were concerned that she may not be strong enough to manage life on the streets. So they found a foster carer so she could continue receiving support for the rest of her days.

The dog whose future had been so uncertain went on to make a full recovery. Watch her moving around in the video: those ordinary steps are the outcome her rescuer and our team had hoped for.

Her story began with someone interrupting their working day to help an animal in pain. It continued with a veterinary team willing to give her time and care, even when the outcome was unknown.

Caring community members make rescues like hers possible by noticing animals in trouble and bringing them to us. Our staff, volunteers, and supporters help turn those acts of compassion into treatment, rehabilitation, and another chance at life.
