WATCH: South Korean Dog Meat Rescue Pups Arrive in Los Angeles

We’re celebrating another sweet meeting between a couple of the dogs we rescued from the meat trade in South Korea with our partner Jindo Love Rescue and adopters with Yoshi and Danny’s arrival in Los Angeles.

Yoshi, a Shiba Inu, was part of an urgent rescue from a kill shelter in 2023. He was only a few days away from being killed and was also at risk from dog meat buyers who “adopt” dogs for slaughter.

Danny is one of only 600 Donggyeong dogs in the world. The endangered breed has a natural bobtail and is considered a national treasure in South Korea. Danny was pulled from the same shelter before he could be killed or taken by a dog meat buyer. Soon after, Danny managed to escape Jindo Love Rescue’s foster center as it burned down, but still suffered from smoke inhalation like many others, fire and chemical burns, and some minor cuts and scrapes.

On March 20, they arrived at Los Angeles International Airport where they met their adopters for the first time.

They’re settling in even quicker than we hoped for in their new homes and their new families adore them. We’re so excited they’re getting the second chance they deserve to be beloved family members, and that they’re going to get to experience the best life has to offer.

In the wake of South Korea’s historic dog meat ban, which will go into effect in 2027, we’re working as hard as ever to rescue and place dogs in new homes in the U.S. and Canada.

Right now, we especially need experienced adopters to adopt 11 special dogs who are especially traumatized from their experiences. Some have been rescued from dog meat farms or trucks and all have been waiting too long to find their forever homes. We also have a few sweet moms who have also been waiting for homes.

If you’re interested in adopting a dog from South Korea, you can learn more about adopting and send Jindo Love Rescue a message on Facebook to start the application process.

Even if you can’t adopt, you can still help by spreading their stories and supporting our ongoing rescue efforts in South Korea by making a donation and spreading the word about our ongoing need for flight volunteers to courier dogs to new homes.
