What You Can Do

Elephants home

You can be a strong advocate for elephants in zoos and circuses. Here are several actions you can take:

Join In Defense of Animals’ Elephant Task Force

Sign up for In Defense of Animals weekly eNews to receive updates and action alerts on all In Defense of Animals campaigns, including Elephant Protection. Make sure to fill in your complete address if you want to receive alerts specific to your area. This helps us reach out to supporters when an issue is most effectively addressed by local advocates.

Zoos

Monitor elephants at your local zoo to document conditions and activity with video and/or photographs

Let your family and friends know how elephants suffer in captivity

Hold neighborhood meetings to help raise awareness

Get permission to talk to students at your local schools about elephants in captivity and the need to conserve the species in the wild

Organize a protest

Circuses

Contact your state and town officials and ask them to enact a legal ban on animals used in circuses

Tell your friends and family not to attend circuses that use animals

Urge sponsors to cancel circus promotions

Post informative comments on social media sites and ask others to share

Organize a protest

Write a letter to the editor of your local paper or submit an op-ed

Get permission to talk to students at your local schools about elephants in captivity and the need to conserve the species in the wild
