Victory! Baskin Robbins Adds Two New Vegan Ice Cream Flavors
The world’s largest ice cream chain, Baskin Robbins, is now serving two new delicious vegan ice cream flavors: Non-Dairy Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Non-Dairy Chocolate Extreme! This victory comes after thousands of In Defense of Animals supporters contacted Baskin Robbins asking the chain to launch a vegan ice cream.
These two new vegan flavors are made with an almond butter and coconut oil base. Better yet, the company states that they’re also free from preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial flavors.
These vegan offerings have been two years in the making, beginning around the same time we launched our alert.
“It was important for us to take the time to get it right,” states Jeanne Bolger, Baskin Robbins Director of Research and Development. “Both flavors are so smooth and indulgent, and the final product delivers the incredible quality that our customers have come to expect from any Baskin-Robbins ice cream. We’re very proud of the result.”
You can find the new dairy-free flavors at U.S. Baskin-Robbins stores beginning August 1st. You can also sample a free 1- scoop of both flavors on Sunday, August 4th from 3-7 p.m. at participating locations.
In the dairy industry, calves are torn away from their mothers mere hours after birth. Cows are devoted and nurturing mothers who forge incredibly strong bonds to their calves. Many cry for days after suffering this devastating separation, begging for their babies to be returned. Terrified and alone, calves are cruelly deprived of the comfort of their mothers. Male calves are usually killed for veal, while females are raised to live the same traumatic life as their mothers. Dairy cows endure a constant cycle of forced impregnation, birth and heartbreaking loss until their milk production declines. At that point, they are sent to the slaughterhouse. Some are still pregnant while slaughtered, and all are killed at only a fraction of their natural lifespan.
