How Dogs & Cats Beat India’s Scorching Heat At Sanctuary
Spring’s just getting a toehold in much of the U.S., but in Mumbai, India, temperatures are already soaring. Thankfully, our dedicated partners at IDA India have thoughtful ways of helping animals in their care beat the heat — and sometimes dogs find their own clever ways to do it themselves!
This week there’s a heatwave warning, with temperatures reaching the upper 90s and high humidity adding to the discomfort.
To cool down the very old and handicapped dogs we use a cold wet towel on their heads and over their bodies. They also get baths and enjoy special attention.
We also spray down the ground multiple times a day, and sometimes dogs will even plop themselves into the containers we use for their drinking water and lounge around.
We also have fans in all rooms for dogs and cats and use air conditioning in our office, outpatient department, and procedure rooms. Right now, we’re building a small cat area and we’ll have fans put in there too.
We’re so grateful to have such a compassionate staff and volunteers who do their best to keep hundreds of animals at our Deonar Center comfortable every day, even when it’s unpleasantly hot.
