VICTORY! Neiman Marcus Commits to Going Fur-Free by 2023!

In another tremendous win for animals, luxury retailer and long-time seller of animal fur, Neiman Marcus, has committed to going fur-free by 2023 thanks to your persistence! Neiman Marcus Group’s new policy eliminates animal fur from Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman stores and websites, and will shut down the fur salons at both divisions.

We thank all of our supporters who signed our Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman alerts, made calls, and spoke out on social media. We’d also like to thank everyone who participated in last year’s Fur Free Friday efforts, in which we teamed up with Ricky Gervais to urge Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue to stop selling animal fur. We did it!

On the West Coast, in particular, Neiman Marcus has been the target of sustained demonstrations, with almost ten years of weekly demonstrations held in front of its downtown San Francisco store. Independent activists and our own Anita Carswell were repeatedly arrested during lockdowns in front of the store with other activists. Neiman Marcus was also part of the annual Fur Free Friday protests in San Francisco, as was Macy’s when its stores still had fur salons, and Nordstrom. The California fur ban has changed all of that, and stores have stopped selling fur altogether after this remarkable victory.

This amazing news breaks just days after a fur-free announcement from Canada Goose, which came hot on the heels of a self-imposed fur ban at Saks in April. Both of these major retailers will phase out fur from their product lines by 2022! We thank you for supporting our campaigns against fur at Saks and Canada Goose, as well!

No animals should die for fashion. Animal victims of the fur trade are held captive, internally electrocuted, bludgeoned, gassed, and may even be skinned alive. More are trapped in the wild, where they suffer in agony until they die from exposure or are killed by trappers who rip their skins from their bodies.

With Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and TJ Maxx all joining the ever-expanding group of compassionate retailers, it is clearer than ever that fur is ugly, outdated, and cruel.

Together, we are making the world a better place for fur-bearing animals. Please consider making a gift today to keep the momentum behind the fur-free movement going — millions of animals are still suffering for fur and we won’t stop fighting for them!
