WATCH: Monsoon Season Rains Hard on Cats & Dogs

It’s monsoon season in India which is making it incredibly hard on the cats and dogs in our care, especially the older ones. Luckily, our partner IDA India is still hard at work providing critical care for hundreds of animals, including emergency cases on the streets and dozens of special residents who have found a forever home at our center in Mumbai.

The Deonar Center is currently a permanent home to 78 dogs, including 18 blind dogs, and 55 cats who can’t be safely released. However, they all enjoy the love and care they get, and those with special needs love spending time in the blind garden when the weather permits.

Hundreds of others also find refuge and care here every month. They come in with anything from serious injuries caused by accidents to skin issues, vision problems, and other illnesses. Those who can’t see are treated by our ophthalmologist, who recommends a course of action for each animal’s unique situation.

The sick and injured animals keep our staff and volunteers incredibly busy and our need for food, medicine, bottles, milk replacer for kittens, and other things like toys to help animals through their recovery phase are constant, as is the need for larger items; we’re currently raising funds to do electrical work on our building, install two air conditioning units, and to buy an ambulance for our Panvel Center to ensure staff can reach animals in need — our vans get very banged up on the rough roads, especially during monsoon season and two are currently out of service, which, as you can imagine, makes things incredibly difficult for us.

Our ambulances are essential for aiding animals like this poor soul who was struck by a vehicle.

Thankfully, someone called for help and one of our working ambulances was able to reach him in time.

We’re proud to be part of such important work caring for animals and inspiring compassion for them in India and hope to continue this mission for years to come.

Our urgent needs right now:

  • Ambulance repairs
  • Food
  • Medicine
  • Kitten bottles & milk formula
  • AC units
  • Toys

You can help support our lifesaving partnership and ensure we have what we need to help animals by making an emergency donation.
